Most likely causes
- The stick is powered from a TV USB port, which often cannot supply the current it needs under load, so it browns out and reboots.
- A third-party or underpowered adapter or cable is being used instead of the official Fire TV power supply.
- The stick is overheating, tucked behind the television with no airflow, and reboots to protect itself.
- HDMI-CEC is switching the stick off or restarting it along with the television or another connected device.
- The Fire OS software is unstable after an interrupted update and needs reinstalling or resetting.
- A failing power adapter or cable is delivering unstable voltage that drops out during heavy streams.
Fixes, in the order to try them
Power the stick from the wall, not the TV. Plug the official Fire TV adapter into a mains socket and connect the stick to that, rather than to a USB port on the television. TV USB ports frequently cannot supply enough current for a stick decoding a heavy stream, and this one change ends a great many restart problems.
Use the original adapter and cable. If the official supply is lost, use a replacement rated for at least the same output; a phone charger with a lower rating may run the stick at idle but fail under a demanding stream. A worn cable can do the same, so swap it if in doubt.
Give the stick airflow. If it is jammed into a recessed HDMI socket behind the TV, add a short HDMI extender so it hangs in open air. A stick that is hot to the touch is a stick that will reboot, and IPTV keeps it working hard for long stretches.
Turn off HDMI-CEC to test. In the television menu, CEC has a brand name such as Bravia Sync, Anynet+, Simplink or Viera Link. Switch it off and watch for the reboots. If they stop, CEC was cycling the stick along with the TV; you can leave it off or re-enable it selectively.
Restart everything cleanly. Unplug the stick and the router for thirty seconds, power the router first, then the stick. This clears a temporary fault and gives you a known starting point for the checks above.
Check for a Fire OS update. Go to Settings, My Fire TV, About, Check for Updates. A stick left on an old or half-updated build can be unstable under load, and installing the current version sometimes settles the reboots on its own.
Reinstall or reset if it persists. If power, heat and CEC are all ruled out and the stick still restarts, the software may be corrupted. Back up nothing you cannot recreate, note your MYTIVIFLIX login, and use Settings, My Fire TV, Reset to Factory Defaults, then set the player up again from the setup guide.
If a stick still reboots on the official adapter, in open air, with CEC off and Fire OS current, the hardware itself may be failing. That is rare, but at that point a replacement stick is the realistic fix, and your subscription and login carry straight over to it.

Firestick keeps restarting FAQ
Why does it only restart while I am watching IPTV?
Streaming, especially at high bitrates, is the heaviest load a stick handles, so any weakness in the power supply or cooling shows up then rather than when it is idle. A TV USB port that just about runs the stick at rest can fail the moment a demanding stream pushes its draw up, which is why the reboots cluster around playback.
Is the TV USB port really the problem?
Very often, yes. Many TV USB ports are not rated to deliver the current a Fire TV Stick wants under load, so the stick browns out and reboots. Amazon itself recommends the supplied wall adapter for this reason. Moving the stick to the official adapter in a mains socket is the first thing to try and fixes a large share of cases.
What is HDMI-CEC and why would it restart my stick?
CEC lets devices on the HDMI bus control one another, so one remote can power the TV and the stick together. It goes by brand names like Anynet+, Bravia Sync and Simplink. When it misbehaves it can switch the stick off or restart it alongside the television. Turning it off in the TV menu is a safe way to test whether it is the cause.
Could overheating cause the reboots?
It can. A stick pressed into a recessed socket behind a warm television has little airflow, and long IPTV sessions keep it working. If it is hot to the touch and rebooting, an HDMI extender that lets it hang in open air often solves the problem. Combine that with the official wall adapter and most heat-related restarts disappear.
